Meie laiuskraadidele on tüüpiline, et kuulume õhumasse jagava jugavoolu mõjusfääri: mõnikord jugavoolu lõuna- ja mõnikord põhjapoolele. Kesklaiuskraadide sooja õhumassi ja põhja laiuskraadide polaarse õhumassi vahele tekib jugavool, mis jaotab sooja ja külma õhu. Nüüd juba pea kahe kuu jooksul oleme jäänud jugavoolu külmemale poolele. Jugavool on blokeerinud Lõuna Euroopa kuuma õhumassi levikut põhjala poole. Seega on tundunud, et sellel suvel on erinevus Lõuna ja Põhja Euroopa temperatuuride vahel suur. Suvekuumus on olnud Lõuna Euroopas juba pikalt ja näib, et see püsib seal.
Praegusel hetkel näib nii, et Euroopa ilmamudelisse ei ole tulemas märkimisväärseid muutusi. Eesti jääb jugavoolu külmemale poolele ning madalrõhkkondi ja sademeid on tulekul vähemalt järgmised paar nädalat. Sekka ka paar soojemat ja kuivemat päeva, millest esimene juba sellel nädalalõpul. Samal ajal aga tekitab muret ja peavalu Vahemere maid piinav meeletu üle 40°C kuumus.

Võib juhtuda, et tulevikus on jugavoolud veelgi rohkem isepäisemad ja ettearvamatud. Olukordades, kus oleme harjunud vahelduva ilmaga võib juhtuda, et üks ja sama ilma tüüp püsib kuude kaupa. Ja on täielikult õnne asi kummale poole jugavoolu me jääme.
